Lesson 17 / 25

Digital PR, Reviews and Community Presence

Earn credible mentions and reviews on independent platforms in an honest, sustainable way.

Be present where answers are drawn from

Use your citation analysis to pick channels. Typical routes: ask satisfied customers for honest reviews on the platforms your buyers use; claim and complete your profiles on relevant directories and marketplaces; contribute expert comments, guest articles and data to reputable publications; take part helpfully in communities and Q&A threads where your audience asks questions; and keep an accurate Wikipedia or Wikidata entry only if you genuinely meet notability and neutrality rules (do not write about yourself). Never buy fake reviews or run astroturfing: it is unethical, often illegal or against platform rules, and can backfire badly.

A simple outreach plan

Start small and measurable. Each action should have an owner and a date.

Month 1 claim/complete profiles on the 5 directories assistants cite most in our category
Month 1 email 30 happy customers asking for an honest review (no incentives for rating)
Month 2 publish an original benchmark (survey of 200 users); pitch it to 10 trade sites
Month 2 answer 4 real questions/week in 2 relevant communities, disclosing our affiliation
Month 3 re-run the prompt set; compare citations and sentiment

Disclose your connection

When you or your staff post about your own product, say so. Transparency protects credibility and complies with most platform rules and advertising guidelines.

Quick check: Which approach to reviews is appropriate?

  • Writing reviews as fake customers
  • Buying fake five-star reviews
  • Asking real customers for honest feedback
  • Deleting every negative review
Answer

Asking real customers for honest feedback — Genuine reviews are ethical and sustainable; fake ones violate rules and trust.
