Lesson 5 / 25
Entity Clarity and Consistent Facts
Describe your brand the same way everywhere so models learn one clear entity.
One name, one description
A model forms an impression of your brand from many places: your site, social profiles, business directories, review sites, news and community discussions. If these disagree on your name, what you do, where you are, when you started or what you charge, the model may blend them or pick the wrong one. Choose a short, clear official description and key facts, then make them consistent across your site, profiles and listings. A disambiguating name matters too if your brand shares a name with other things.
Be clear, be consistent, be cited
Assistants favour entities they can identify clearly, facts that agree across sources and pages that answer directly.
A consistency audit, run
I ran this on three made-up sources. It flags every field where sources disagree: the directory has a different name, founding year and price. Fix the stale source, not just the data you control.
sources = {
"website": {"name": "Acme Tasks", "founded": 2019, "price_from": 5},
"linkedin": {"name": "Acme Tasks", "founded": 2019},
"directory": {"name": "AcmeTasks Inc", "founded": 2018, "price_from": 9},
}
def mismatches(sources):
keys = set().union(*[set(v) for v in sources.values()])
out = {}
for k in sorted(keys):
vals = {n: v[k] for n, v in sources.items() if k in v}
if len(set(vals.values())) > 1:
out[k] = vals
return out
for k, v in mismatches(sources).items():
print(k, v)
Output:
founded {'website': 2019, 'linkedin': 2019, 'directory': 2018}
name {'website': 'Acme Tasks', 'linkedin': 'Acme Tasks', 'directory': 'AcmeTasks Inc'}
price_from {'website': 5, 'directory': 9}Keep a "brand facts" page
Publish one plain page on your site with your official name, description, founders, location, products, pricing summary and contact. It becomes an easy, authoritative source for people, crawlers and assistants to quote.
Quick check: Why keep your brand facts consistent across sites?
- Consistency makes pages slower
- Conflicting facts can lead models to blend or choose the wrong one
- Models ignore facts
- It is required by robots.txt
Answer
Conflicting facts can lead models to blend or choose the wrong one — Agreement across sources makes one clear entity; disagreement creates confusion.
