Lesson 4 / 32

Meta Tags & Titles

Crafting titles and meta descriptions that influence click-through rates and tell search engines what your page is about.

Title tags

The title tag (in <head>) is the headline of your page in search results. It's 50-60 characters; anything longer gets cut off. Include your primary keyword, but keep it natural and click-worthy. This is the #1 thing a user reads before deciding whether to visit your site.

Title and meta description

The meta description appears below the title in search results. It should clearly summarize the page in 150-160 characters. Not every word on the page needs to be in the meta; just the core message.

<head>
  <title>Best JavaScript Tutorials for Beginners 2025</title>
  <meta name="description" content="Learn JavaScript from scratch with practical examples and interactive exercises. Perfect for beginners.">

  <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
  <meta name="charset" content="UTF-8">
</head>

Avoid duplicate titles

Every page should have a unique title and description. Using the same title across 100 pages signals to Google that you don't care about user experience and confuses which page should rank.
