Git is the version-control tool that runs on your machine. GitHub is a cloud service that hosts Git repositories and adds collaboration features on top — pull requests, issues, code review.

Git is like a personal diary you keep on your laptop. GitHub is like publishing that diary online so teammates can read it, comment, and add their own pages.

What GitHub adds

Beyond hosting: pull requests, issue tracking, code review, CI/CD via Actions, project boards, and a social layer — stars, followers, profiles.
