Lesson 19 / 26
Route 53 (DNS) Basics
Turning domain names into IP addresses, and routing smartly.
What Route 53 does
Route 53 is AWS's DNS service — it resolves domain names to IP addresses or AWS resources, and can also register domains directly.
Routing policies at a glance
Simple (one answer), weighted (split traffic by percentage, e.g. for canary releases), latency-based (send to the fastest region), failover (switch to a backup if health checks fail).
Quick check: You want 5% of traffic to hit a new version for a canary test. Which Route 53 policy fits?
- Simple routing
- Weighted routing
- Failover routing
Answer
Weighted routing — Weighted routing lets you split traffic by percentage between two versions.
