# Why Strategy, Not Hype — AI Strategy, Ethics and Governance

> Explain why starting from business problems beats starting from the technology.

## Start with the problem

Many AI projects fail not because the model is weak but because nobody agreed **what problem it solves**, **how success is measured** or **who will use it**. An **AI strategy** answers: Which business goals matter this year (cut support cost, speed up onboarding, reduce errors)? Where could AI help most? What do we need in data, skills and tools? What are the limits we will not cross? It is a plan for value and risk together, not a list of tools to buy.

## From idea to impact

A good AI strategy links business goals to a short list of well-chosen use cases, backed by data and people.

## A map before the journey

You would not buy a vehicle before knowing the destination, the road and the budget. Technology is the vehicle; strategy is the destination, road and budget.

## Write the goal as a number

"Use AI in support" is a wish. "Resolve 40% of routine tickets without an agent by December while keeping satisfaction above 4.2" is a goal you can plan, measure and defend.

**Quiz:** What is the best starting point for an AI strategy?

- [ ] A vendor demo
- [ ] The newest model
- [x] A business problem with a measurable goal
- [ ] A press release

*Answer:* A business problem with a measurable goal. Value comes from solving defined problems, so the problem and the metric come first.
